Hi everyone! This is my Week 7 blog post for Software Engineering.

What did you do this past week?

This past week I worked on learning more about the backend for my group’s project. I learned about AWS Elastic Beanstalk and RDS. I also began studying for the upcoming SWE exam.

What’s in your way?

There is just a lot going on this upcoming week. I want to prioritize preparing for the exams I have this week, and then, I need to make sure that my team is on solid footing to finish up our project by the March 24 due date. Nothing, in particular, is in my way. I just need to make sure I manage my time properly and get my work done as efficiently as possible.

What will you do next week?

I will focus on studying for the SWE exam. In terms of the project, I will make sure that we have made significant progress in terms of handling the connection between our backend and frontend.

What was your experience of =, *, **, and decorators?

I’m finally starting to understand these operators and decorators. The HackerRank we did Friday in class helped with understanding how tuple unpacking, dictionary unpacking, and decorators work. I think it will take more practice before I’m comfortable using these in my own code, but I’ll get there soon.

What made you happy this week?

I had a restful weekend. I heard somewhere that the weekend shouldn’t make you weak, it should make you well-rested. This is going to be a very busy week, and now, I’m ready to take it on. Being in the right headspace to take on a stressful week makes me happy.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

This week in an EGaDS + Div Orgs workshop, I learned about Unity! Unity is a development platform for VR, AR, and video games. There are a lot of introductory videos online to help people get started with this, and it’s really interesting! I haven’t personally been very involved with game development or computer graphics, but this platform makes learning about these fields much more attainable.

Thanks for reading, and good luck with your upcoming midterms! :)
